It was that internship that led to a job offer. Looking
back Jennifer realizes how important that internship was. When she arranged
for an internship as part of her degree plan, she didn’t imagine that
she would secure a position and start a new career because of it.
Nevertheless, that is exactly what happened. Now she tells every
student she meets: “Try to find an internship in the field and industry
where you’d like to work.” She credits an adjunct professor in the
evening college program, whose daytime job was as a banking executive,
with the caring and thoughtful kind of mentoring that led Jennifer to
her next career. Recently downsized from the bank where she first
honed her marketing skills, Jennifer was snapped up within a very short
while by another bank, but not before she had three offers to choose
from. Her belief is that networking and connecting make all the
difference. She says that no matter how much you love your job and the
place where you work, you should always be working as if you were
planning for the next job. You do a good job while you’re in the
position, but you also make all the necessary contacts and good
impressions with all those with whom you come in contact. Continuing
to wear the many hats that she does, including that of grandmother,
Jennifer has embarked on the next stage of her career. At the same
time, she is concerned about the world, about truth-telling, about
caring for one another, about showing up and speaking up --- and she is
doing just that. She is living fully her truth. More power to her!
